Who's afraid of the...?

Yet another scandal! Since last December, someone has been threatening to put bombs on train tracks here in France and no one thought to alert the public until yesterday.
According to L'Immonde,
A bomb due to go off on February 18 did not.
Well, wasn't THAT lucky!
The terrorists call themselves 'AZF' apparently as a reminder of a factory that blew up in Toulouse just a few days after America's self-inflicted 9/11 tragedy. Last Monday, after setting up a drop with AZF aka 'Big Bad Wolf', 'Suzy' aka the police, flubbed it. They couldn't find the blue tarpaulin that was supposed to mark the drop point. Why? Well, it was...after dark.
Posted by Valerie at March 4, 2004 07:44 PMThen France was attacked around the same time as America? You all kept it pretty hush hush. Conspiracy theories always fail in my mind, when I think of all the people who would be involved on the periphery. How to keep them from talking?
Then I see something like this to explode the notion. Seems all you need is a compliant press corp and a government willing to not tell the truth. Frightening thought.
Posted by: papertiger at March 5, 2004 01:36 AMThey have blamed the explosion on faulty security measures but at the time, terrorism was on everybody's lips and minds.
Even here where I live (way smaller than Toulouse, nowhere near Paris) they shored up security around the chemicals stored in local warehouses and some were actually moved to more secure sights as a precaution.
There were even a couple of 'tainted' water scares around that time, too. I never heard who was responsible...
