Guess who's defending Saddam?
No surprise, it's Vergès. See LGF's link to another article that tells us who Vergès believes is REALLY guilty.
Posted by Valerie at March 27, 2004 05:06 PMPfft. Let's for a moment grant M. Vergès his defense:
"We know very well that the Anglo-Americans armed Saddam Hussein, that the chemical weapons were sold by the allies," Verges said in a telephone interview.
What kind of defense is this? That Saddam Hussein was a manipulable sock puppet? Clever the way the UN manipulated Saddam to kick its inspectors out of Iraq.
And exactly what was it America provided for Saddam's rape rooms? Has M. Vergès read the indictment against his client? Saddam's answering for all his crimes, not M. Vergès pet crusades. Saddam's torturings were strictly a family hobby.
That M. Vergès' clients deserve their day in court is not in dispute. But someone might want to clue M. Vergès that neither America nor Mr. Rumsfeld -- or for that matter the UN or Jack or Dom or Jerry -- are on trial. If this is as good as M. Vergès can manage, ho-ho, Saddam is as good as hanged.
It is interesting that M. Vergès seeks to lawyer for both Saddam and Tariq Aziz. These two will have each other the moment the gavel drops, each looking to exculpate himself at his co-defendent's expense. Perhaps that suits M. Vergès headline-grabbing strategy.

From the little I know of the French Justice System, it seems they are on the lenient side. Bove let out after a couple weeks for vandalizing a Micky D's. Police unwilling to arrest or investigate most crime on the street.
And yet this guy Carlos, being defended by Verges, gets the full boat.
Hope Verges defends Saddam with simular vigor.
It is well knoooown that "anglo-americans"armed saddam to teeth while france barely managed to sell them a few ambulances and first aid kits. And concerning halabja, everybody knoooows that theses were F-4'disguised as Mirages and flown by former CIA operatives.
Actually it WILL be fun following the trial!

Really, how many times must we repeat this.
USSR 57%
FRANCE 13%
USA 1%
See the difference between 13 and 1 or are you blind to simple numbers, too?
