Dumber and Dumbest
JoKe speaks to P Jennings:
Yes, I think there should be less violence and less sex. And when I talked about the heart and soul, I'm talking about the artistic expression. I'm talking about sort of the, I mean, I believe in the arts. I think that there's a great expression in it, and there's always this struggle. You know, does life imitate art or art imitate life? Which comes first? It's a little of both.
Had to read that twice to decipher it. Why he is spouting off about art is beyond me. Oh, I forgot, JoKe is a man full of...nuances.
Aren't these two geniuses missing the point about Insult Night? I thought that what was missing was a little respect and dignity during what was billed as a political fundraiser. Did I miss something? Was there a huge brawl or an orgy upon that star-mangled evening? You'd think so after reading on a bit further in the interview (emphasis added).
I do think we have a responsibility, as leaders, to stand up. I think there were people at that, at that concert we had in New York who stepped over the line. I've said that. They don't speak for me. They speak for themselves. I will stand up and struggle, as others have, to try to get that right balance between violence, and sex, and things.
Okay...so you invited the 'artists' to come 'art' for you and if you were to ever be elected president, you would 'stand up' to 'struggle' against these very 'artists' who are too violent and have to much sex. (Did I get that right?) That's what I call BIG government, dude. Although I'm pretty sure that taking a big STICK to the islamic fanatic murderers out there is a slightly more pressing issue...
Oh, and yes, mustn't forget things. Veeeeerrrrrrrrrry important indeed. But JoKe's reference to Things gives me pause. Does this mean he is currently reading the Dr Seuss oeuvre? Heady stuff for such a nuanced man...
I remember Things One and Two fondly from my childhood, of course.
Then those things ran about With big bumps, jumps and kicks And with hops and big thumps And all kinds of bad tricks
Hey, I much prefer Fun-In-A-Box to Two-Johns-in-A-Box anyday. AND the Things have great hair.
Posted by Valerie at July 23, 2004 09:52 PMOh, Oh, Val, we see what you’re doing
Remember it’s us, your readers you are cooing!
You mention and make a joke about Kerry
and his running mate, both so hairy,
wanting us to write like Dr. Seuss
and make fun of Kerry, that silly goose.
Well, not me, I won’t try it!
No, none, not one little bit.
My comments are too deep, profound, for this,
Perhaps papertiger could, and go into bliss.
The good Dr. Seuss said all there was to say about letting Thing One & Thing Two (aka The Johns) into our lives:
"These Things should not be here!
These things should not be about!"
The long suffering little goldfish
Andy,
Did you known "Dr. Seuss" dio amazing work during WWII promoting public awareness and community action? Yeah, Cat in the Hat did PROPAGANDA!! Next time you get near the LofC, maybe they can rustle up a copy of his work. If Sandy Burglar hasn't filched it.
Oh, my, now I can surely see
Some of you are old as me
Old as me and oh, so wise
To want to be rid of the idiots in disguise
What a hoot!
What a hoot!
What a hoot!
T'will be when they are given the boot!
"Dr. Seuss" dio amazing work during WWII
Yes, remember when those in the entertainment business actually supported the United States?
Just think of what the idiots in Hollywood now would have been doing during WWII. Michael Moore making films showing how nice and peaceful Germany was before the US "invaided" on D-Day. Young German kids running through the edelweiss, flying a kite, oh so serene. And, of course, blaming the president and the US for the attack on Pearl Harbor.

Let's not go there too far, or the Cat in the Hat will be cussing like a drunk sailor.
Amazing what happened to Hollyweird in just 2 generations isn't it? Jimmy Stewart, as did so many actors, went in and signed up for service. True, active military service. Mr. Stewart flew a bomber. He uderstood keenly the message of Its a Wonderful Life.

WOW!
When your new design started to load I thought I’d hit the wrong “Favorites” button again and was going into that porno site….I mean, heck, I don’t have any porno sites in my favorites, what I mean is I thought it was going into that site I looked at once, well, maybe twice, ummm three times?…I mean, well heck, I like it! (And I’m not talkin’ bout the frog!)
Andy, LOL! You are wonderfully insane.
I don't know, I can't help but feel sorry for that little froggy. He's so out gunned.

Sorry, I'm terribly late in answering. And since this thread as already been diverted (sorry Valerie) to the benefit of our gorgeous new stilettos...
"Grisé" in French means "intoxicated." So the play on words is on Mandel being intoxicated ("grisé") by his role as Clémenceau's advisor, as being the power behind Clémenceau ("l'éminence grise").
Posted by: Carine at July 24, 2004 11:59 PMThanks ever so much for the assistance, Carine.
Intoxicated with the power. I see. Like we would say "Drunk with power".
