Celebrating the first anniversary

You may remember how just a little more than a year ago French rocker Bertrand Cantat had beaten to death his girlfriend, French actress Marie Trintignant and how he said he was devastated by her death.

Well, apparently he's doing just fine today.

French rock singer Bertrand Cantat . . . . staged a concert Wednesday for his fellow inmates at the Lukiskiu prison complex, his lawyer said.

"The concert lasted for an hour and the hall was full," Virginijus Papirtis told AFP.

The 40-year-old lead singer of the group Noir Desir played guitar and harmonica as he performed 20 songs in English and French in a church on the prison grounds. His lawyer said Cantat decided to give the concert after recovering his guitar from Lithuanian prosecutors.

"His fingers were bloody when he tried it for the first time after so long," Papirtis said. His brother Xavier was present at Wednesday's concert.

His fingers can be bloody, Marie Trintignant is still dead.

B. Cantat is sentenced to 8 years in lithuanian prison . If he will be transfered to France , he spends less than 8 years surely ( good conduct , health ,...). But the family of M Trintignant watch and will not tolerate that ,and I hope so .
Another celebrity murder in summer Marc Cecillon Former French captain rugby shot his wife several times in front of 60 witnesses at a party .

does eight years make up for this crime? I would hope that after he is released from Lithuania he would see another trial on return to France.

sgvn is probably right. In France he will be in some VIP section of the prison and chances are he won't even complete the eight years.
He'll go out, record a new LP with Noir Désir about his "experience" and it will sell like crazy.

Maybe he could be sentenced to playing Hanson covers?

I remember when I first heard about this. I had trouble putting together the autor of "Le Vent nous portera" and the image of a murderer.

If he does put out a new album and I find it good at least I won't feel guilty one bit about downloading the music and burning the complete album to a CD.

Piracy can be good, ne?

MW,

I know exactly what you mean ;)

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't prison supposed to cure someone of the crime he/she has committed. After his prison-time, he should be as free as anyone to pick up the threads of his life. As Blake said, the Law can detect sin, but not cure it.

nobodaddy,

Cantat has yet 7 years to serve in prison. The concert was staged from prison, which is, according to me, of very bad taste, especially since he used to say he was "devastated". But that's my opinion.

This said, prison is at least supposed to make the "criminal" think. As I said, Cantat seemed to be doing quite fine.
