Syria involved?
Do they know anything at all? Everything is possible in France. It just doesn't have the same meaning as when you say "in America." Quite the opposite actually. Meanwhile, some people seem to enjoy having a little fun at the expense of France in the process. (Emphasis mine)
The group that has detained the two French journalists Christian Chesnot and Georges Malbrunot for 48 days has reproached France for "untimely declarations" and "interferences" in a message sent on September 30, claims Thursday's edition of Le Monde. This message was transmitted via the Internet through an authenticated medium, alleges the daily newspaper. The message mentions "interferences" and "untimely and irresponsible declarations" that it attributes to France to announce a breaking off of relations with the government.
Prime Minister Jean-Pierre Raffarin condemned Deputy Julia's escapade on Tuesday, blamed for "stopping" the process of liberation of the hostages, on September 28, through his "personal initiative without any official mandate."
What? Not even from the U.N.?!?
"The government does not set aside" the hypothesis that the two French journalists kidnapped in Iraq could be kept in Syria, said François Bayrou, president of the UDF [Union for French Democracy - a right wing party], on Wednesday. He had been received by the Government the day before.Posted by Carine at October 6, 2004 01:36 PMWhile some mention the hypothesis of a "diverting" of the hostages by Syrian agents, François Bayrou admitted on Europe 1 [radio] having "heard such a hypothesis" from the government. . .
"Syria NOT involved" would surprise me. I'm Lebanese in origin - I know better.

Posted by: Doug at October 6, 2004 08:20 PMIt's amazing, isn't it?
Posted by: Carine at October 6, 2004 11:49 PMOf course not Doug - they are the world, they are the children, blah blah...
