The unsticker

Congratulations to Condi Rice.

May Colin Powell enjoy life after the State Department. Best wishes.

Many in Europe, Asia and the Middle East believed Rice will add a more conservative, hawkish bent to U.S. diplomacy after Powell, seen by many as a moderating voice in a Cabinet of hawks.

As rated by Powell himself, on a "conservativeness" scale of 100 he claims to be about 60, and Condi about 90. That matches my perception.

And as for me, I'm swooning. I am struck with puppy-love for our new secretary of state. I didn't catch wind of this comment at the time she made it, but it absolutely mirrored my own sentiments;

“Punish France, ignore Germany and forgive Russia,” Rice was widely quoted as telling associates in the spring of 2003.

I want a Condi Rice poster.

Ha, I didn't remember the 'punish' comment. Well said, Condi.

Many Europeans are quaking in their boots about Mizz Rice. THEY must not have forgotten her comment, eh?

Yeah, there's even been talk in DC here about running Condi for president against that dreadful, wench Hillary.

You know, take away the womens vote, black vote, etc. from the Dems. I kind of like the idea...

That would be a first, wouldn't it? From Sec of State to running for Prez?

We'll have to see what things are like in four years, and we all know that a lot can happen, but my gut is telling me that 2008 would be too early...

Ugh, I really don't want to be talking elections yet, my brain has yet to recover from this last one...

In any case, it's fab that we're actually imagining Condi as a serious candidate.

Valerie, there have been at least 8 Presidents who were Secretary of Srate. So there is precedent.

Andy - I would vote for Condi in a haeart beat. Not because she is a woman, because she is AWESOME!

Not because she is a woman, because she is AWESOME!

And, of course, NOT Hillary.

But I may have pushed the Condi/Hillary election a bit. News today is saying that Rep. Vito J. Fossella (REP-NY) (Hey, you mean Doug is NOT the only Republican in NY?) sent a letter to Colin Powell asking him to take on Hillary in her re-election bid in 2006.

"I write to ask that you consider a call of duty from your home state. On behalf of the people of New York, I respectfully request that you consider returning home and running as the Republican nominee for the United States Senate in 2006."

I kind of like that idea as well. Get "Rid of Rodham" early....before 2008!

Oh, you're right! But, if I'm not mistaken, it's been a long while since it has happened...since James Buchanan back in the late 1840's and, even then, it was a few years after serving in Polk's cabinet.

But, hey, what's 150 years!

At Sunday's American Music Awards Gene Simmons (the tounge wagging guy from KISS) explained why he voted for Bush: "In time of war, if you go through a bad neighborhood, I don't wnat a little French poodle, I want a Rottweiler on my hands."

Ummm, lets see, since this thread is about Condi, well, she was NOT in attendence at the event!

Now, back to the thread: Wow, let's hear it for James Buchanan! What a guy.

Uh, Andy, did you just get away with a velvet revolution in the threads with that Simmons story or what?

:)

I don't know about Condi for pres. I think she's qualified and she'd do well, I'm just not sure if she'd be a great candidate. If you were looking for a female candidate today, I think Libby Dole and Kay Hutchison are both more electable. Things could look different in four years, though.
