Life is good for some
Apparently. Although it's "not like a five-star hotel." (Emphasis mine)
New footage has emerged of two French reporters taken hostage in Iraq showing both men apparently well and in good spirits, the Sunday Times reported. . .Posted by Carine at November 29, 2004 12:32 AMChesnot, 37, reportedly says he and Malbrunot are "here because there are security issues and investigations regarding our identities as we are journalists and the Islamic Army is doing the investigations."
Speaking in Lebanese Arabic, he says they are being treated well by their captors, "although their hospitality is not like a five-star hotel".
"The behaviour of the Islamic Army has been very good. There is no violence involved. We eat three times a day and we get lots of tea and everything is available," he adds.
After learning of the gory hostage "hotels" found in Fallujah, I am finding it difficult to believe these men are hostages. Thinking more "embedded reporter" and "exclusive story". Just me being cynical.

'Cept freedom and that there are angry men on a jihand with guns. Would be nice to have more of the first and less of the second wouldn't it?
But WHO CARES? They have all the escargot and merlot they could want, I wager.
Posted by: Moonwhisper at November 29, 2004 03:53 PMYeah. I'm thinking that any "investigation" into their identities as journalists must have taken all of, oh, three minutes.
Posted by: Doug at November 29, 2004 04:55 PMIt is interesting to note that US troops "found" the driver last week. Sure would be nice if we "found" the reporters as well...

Omar, at Iraq the Model, points out another sign of the special status of French diplomats in Baghdad.
Beat me to it Papertiger!
Omar makes some interesting observations.
Almost every other hostage gets butchered and these guys get tea? Something just does not smell right, and I don't mean body odor.
I wish no harm to befall these men, and hope the Coalition forces soon kick the doors down to their tea party and ship them home to their worried families. But, again, something just ain't right...
Posted by: Valerie, Texas at November 30, 2004 04:00 AMI bet the frenchies get pumped a dozen times a day up their champs-elysee by the camel fuckers each day too. No wonder they put up with less than "a five star hotel." They are in French heaven.
Posted by: jingojim at November 30, 2004 07:05 AMJust to remind everyone, folks:
Lebanese Arabic is concidered the most crude of all 43 flavors at al-baskin-robbins. It's akin to an unwitting bugs-bunnyesque queens accent or unintelligable cockney.
"Journalistes..." harumph!
Mr. Jingojim,
Your post skates the edges of decorum. E-Nough!'s disgust with the French in general and their cosy relationships with terrorists in particular is not in need of crude sexual enlargements.
We are not sensitive plants, but then neither are we gratuitous. If this is too great a circumscription of your expression, there are other more welcoming sites where you can comment.

DGB
