Those cultured and sophisticated Europeans

Everyday, so many reasons to keep on lecturing the United States...

Again, from the "Peace" camp:

German Foreign Minister Joschka Fischer was caught red-handed, ignorant of the name of Malta's capital, it was reported on Saturday in popular daily Bild.

Questioned by children as part of a quiz for famous people, the Germany head of diplomacy first said that the capital of Malta was called Malta. [When the children] gave him a second chance, he had to admit he did not know the capital of this country, that joined the European Union in May, was called Valletta.

Only consolation for the deputy chancellor, it wasn't difficult for the young journalists to expose geographical blanks of other important German politicians.

The Minister for Economy, Wolfgang Clement, attributed the slovak flag to "a Baltic State", while the secretary general of the social democrat party, Klaus-Uwe Benneter, mistook the Maltese flag for the Polish one, indicates Bild...

Isn't it from Germany that is coming the saying "Whenever I hear the word culture, I reach for my revolver"?

Meanwhile, would it be too much to ask for just a little R-E-S-P-E-C-T?

Baffled authorities in southern Germany have issued an alert concerning unknown persons who have been sticking small US flags into piles of dog droppings in public parks in Bayreuth.

"This has been going on for about a year now, and there must be 2,000 to 3,000 piles of excrement that have been thusly 'adorned' during that time," said Bayreuth parks administrator Josef Oettl.

The sporadic series of incidents originally was thought to be some sort of protest against the US-led invasion of Iraq. And when it continued it was thought to be a protest against President George W. Bush's campaign for re-election.

Bayreuth police say they are completely baffled.

"We have sent out extra patrols to try to catch whoever is doing this in the act," said police spokesman Reiner Kuechler. "But frankly, we don't know what we would do if we caught them red- white- and-blue handed."

HAHAHA. Very funny. A little respect?

Legal experts agreed, saying there is no law against using faeces as a flag stand and the federal constitution is vague on the issue.

Just a little bit. Just a little bit.

Carine-
Maybe it's a U.S. ex-pat, leaving a calling card.
Either way, it's hard to imagine that anyone would...stoop so low....

Bet you 5 Euros the little flags are made in China!

I have to admit that I have met several Americans in Paris that would... stoop that low.

Did I write Americans? I meant anti-U.S. Americans leaving in Boboland sur Seine.

Actually, I'm quite sure it did start in France. I vaguely remember a TV coverage of a French "involved artist" allegedly making some sort of politcal statement this way. Years ago.

Crap culture, literally and properly.

Are dogpiles a common sight on German streets? This incident reflects poorly on public hygiene in Germany. Don't people pick up after their dogs there?

I don't know about Germany, but they certainly don't in France.
