Groundhog facts;

the only animal which has a day named after it.
also known as the woodchuck.
the largest member of the marmot family.
one of the few true hibernating animals, while bears fall into a deep sleep, groundhogs actually shut off metabolic processes, brain function, heartbeat.
uses the same hybernium (hole to hybernate) year after year, some even passed down generation after generation.
while man (and most animals) imigrated to America from Asia using the Bering Strait land bridge, Groundhogs started in America and moved via the land bridge the other way. All marmots originated in America.

And there is a movie named after them.

I just finished watching it for the 15th time in the last two days. It's running on a continous loop on my tv...sorry, gotta go run and watch it again....can't stop.
