Greenpeace: Black & blue
I took on a Texan Swat team at Esso last year and they were angels compared with this lot.
The secret is out of the bag, folks. Texans are...cupcakes compared with British oil traders.
Protesters conceded that mounting the operation after lunch may not have been the best plan. “The violence was instant,” Jon Beresford...said.Posted by Valerie at February 20, 2005 09:34 AM“They grabbed us and started kicking and punching. Then when we were on the floor they tried to push huge filing cabinets on top of us to crush us.”
...
...“They were kicking and punching men and women indiscriminately,” a photographer said. “It was really ugly, but Greenpeace did not fight back.”Mr Beresford said: “They followed the guys into the lobby and kept kicking and punching them there. They literally kicked them on to the pavement.”
Last night Greenpeace said two protesters were in hospital, one with a suspected broken jaw, the other with concussion.
It is good once in a while to post on subjects where we agree with Chirac.

Posted by: Joe N. at February 20, 2005 06:06 PMYou left out the best part.
As the BBC reporter was doing his wrap up, one of the traders while lustily enjoying a well earned victory pint, leaned over the rail and yelled,
"Sod off, Swampy".
Game, set, match.
Running total of what Kyoto is costing these oil traders

True, but, uh, well, the word 's*d' is the equivalent of our 'f**k', so I didn't want to use it. ;)
Anecdotal information:
Was watching a weekend news magazine on the Beeb last weekend and there was a short report - an opinion piece - by one of THEIR own people in which the correspondent basically argued that Kyoto is not all that important and that there are lots of other issues out there that world governments could be spending time and money on that would impact the world NOW and improve peoples' lives IN THE NEAR FUTURE and not some far off time when all mankind has supposedly learned to live without fossil fuels. It was really very balanced and, well, very un-condemning of the USA.
The presenter of the show then made sure that we all knew that the opinions held in the piece were 'one man's' opinion and not that of the BBC.
I practically ripped an aorta laughing.
Even moderate views on this are UNACCEPTABLE in some quarters. Unbelievable.
Posted by: Valerie at February 20, 2005 11:46 PMKyoto isn't all that important? So why the in-effect break-in and demonstration for no apparent purpose?
Is this a case of the green generals hiding the truth from the troops?
