You're right. That little waste of space in the WSJ IS a joke. As is Annan, of course. Why the WSJ felt they should publish it is beyond me.

uh . . . what mission would that be, fattening your Swiss bank account?
"But a week later, when all involved came together in Jakarta to plan and coordinate the multinational effort, everyone, including the U.S., agreed that the U.N. should take the lead"
A WEEK later? Wasn't it more like a month later?
He's either the worst liar in history or he's completely delusional.

Posted by: Jay at February 22, 2005 03:40 PMValerie,
Jay,
I think the WSJ only wanted to give Kofi what we call in French "un droit de réponse" (what would it be in English? Right of reply?).
That Kofi used it this way, clearly pulling our legs like that, again, is not surprising. But it proves once again this guy thinks the U.S. owe him and his corrupted organization everything. One more evidence the U.S. should tell the U.N. to go where it belongs: hell.
Actually, I'm grateful to the WSJ for allowing Kofi to keep on making a joke of himself and his organization.

Yeah, those 35 election officials in Iraq were indispensable too. Thank God the u.n. was there. They will forever be remembered as the heroes of Iraqi democracy.

Speaking of which, have they run away from Iraq again yet?

Darfur Foes Agree to Revive Peace Talks“While the United Nations may not be able to take humanity to heaven, it must act to save humanity from hell,” Annan said at a meeting on Wednesday to review a report by a UN-appointed commission on Darfur.
Hells that aren't inflicted or endorsed by the u.n., anyway.
Posted by: Doug at February 22, 2005 10:53 PMThe U.N. cannot expect to survive into the 21st century unless ordinary people throughout the world feel that it does something for them--helping to protect them against conflict[emphasis mine]
Well, he sure hasn't snowed the extraordinary folks at E-nough! :)
Posted by: andy at February 23, 2005 04:12 PMYou've already felled Tariq Ramadan, Andy - are you ready to take down Kofi?
