Who said the French wouldn't take sides? They actually do.
I think I already mentioned the entanglement of buildings that is La Défense.
It even comes with an Arche (La Grande Arche de la Défense - No kidding). The French love les arches. Germans do too (as much as they like the Triumphal Way, apparently).
Yes, I am a little bit angry and you are about to understand why.
I am not surprised at all anymore, in France, to see any kind of monument (whether a statue, or a monument in the honor of Human Rights, or cemeteries or the above-mentioned Grande Arche) desecrated by rude or sometimes racist/anti-Semite/anti-American, hateful graffitis.
But this one is still hard to swallow.
This picture was taken last Friday, on May 20, 2005, on the left side of the Grande Arche. Directly written on the wall of the arche.
For those who know the place, in the background, you can recognize the reflection of the Coeur Défense Tower.
I guess the weasel who wrote this must be hoping for someone else to walk the "Triumphal Way".
Anyway, disgusted by the view, my friend and I turned away and he saw, opposite the Grande Arche, in the back of the Neuilly Cemetery, what he thought was an American flag.
And indeed. There is, apparently, an American Legion Mausoleum there. Now almost opposite a Bin Laden graffiti.
Nice tribute, isn't it?
But the best in France is that they can never get E-nough! of America-bashing and hating and rejoicing over American (civilian or not) casualties.
On Sunday, near the Eglise de la Madeleine, I picked up a free newspaper. Economie Matin.
A free "newspaper". In Paris. About Economics. Must be interesting to have a look at.
The website for the newspaper says that 200,000 copies of the paper are being released every week.

Considering his son was four blocks from the WTC that day and my daughter was across the street, we know what happened there.
The message on my cell phone from my daughter was filled with fear..she was working in the Deutsche Bank Building. The debris from the planes was smashing into her building and they were all ordered to mid-town...she arrived there before the tower fell.
Her building is condemned...and is being torn down. The security guard she greeted daily died that day because he stayed at his post.
My husband's great aunt and great uncle (part of the Resistance) must be rolling in their graves at the anti-American hatred being spewd all over France.

Also, the french defense industry (Dsassault, etc.) which owns many of the frenc MSMs have been know to divert funds. May even be a few Euros left in the old KGB Disinformation Bureau's old foreign accounts.

As I was getting coffee in the BOQ this morning I was chatting and cracking jokes with the cleaning lady who I know and who was also with another woman I didn`t know.
I happened to non challantly mention that I hate Phrance (which the cleaning lady already knew) when the other woman chimed in and offered her version of the wonderful diversity of cultures throughout the world, which by the way included Phrance, a country(?) culture(?) and people that she had always admired.
Then she asked me what I had against Phrance.
The answer was immediate and obvious to me; "It`s such an easy and convenient target".
Now, to me, that response made perfect sense because I do actually follow world events and the Phrench Phollies are apparent almost everyday.
To her, I was apparently just another clueless, insensitive moron who had no idea of diverse cultures.
I informed this woman, who turned out to be a retired Army Colonel, not to mistake my dislike and disdain for anything Phrench (except Carine and Bic lighters) for ignorance.
I was stunned by the fact that this woman, a retired 0-6, Bird Colonel, INTELLIGENCE even, had no clue on the MECHENICS of Phrench culture.
Just goes to show that a good education doesn`t nessecarily equal intelligence.
