A year to remember
And a very good year indeed. The entire article should be available here.
Conventional wisdom holds that George W. Bush, buffeted by storms real and political, suffered through an annus horribilis of epic proportions. But viewers ought to look beyond the bickering Beltway. Across Europe, the ruling establishment had a truly nasty 2005 that many politicians might prefer to forget come midnight Saturday.Posted by Carine at December 30, 2005 04:34 PM(...)
The first casualties were in France. Although Jacques Chirac rightly figured that the referendum would split the left, the French president didn't expect to see his own career terminated by it. He is now "Monsieur One Percent," as the satirical weekly Canard Enchaîné calls him. The nickname was inspired by a recent opinion poll that found that only 1% of the French wanted the incumbent to serve another term. His weak handling of last month's rioting by poor minority youths, which also laid bare the shortcomings of the ruling class, was another nail in the coffin. By 2007, the brash Interior Minister Nicolas Sarkozy or the aristocratic Prime Minister Dominique de Villepin or someone else will sit at the Elysée -- a different personality, if nothing else.
And a new Democrat President will soon sit at Washington, too ! :)

Posted by: Maxtor at December 30, 2005 05:18 PMYou mean like John Kerry in 2004?
Watch out for your car tomorrow night. Or is it that you have no car because you have no job either? Ah, so glad to live in douce France and not evil America.
Posted by: Carine at December 30, 2005 06:41 PM- Katrina scandal has nothing to do with GWB and everything to do with local Louisiana politicians.
- Plame scandal was never a scandal except in the minds of journalists and the Wilson/Plames so has nothing to do with GWB.
- Gwantanamo (sic) scandal is non-existent so has nothing to do with GWB.
- Torture scandal was never about torture but about hazing and just plain meanness on the part of a small band of people and has nothing to do with GWB.
- CIA leak scandal??? What leak? To whom? What would make GWB responsible for it? He isn't in charge of the CIA, for heaven's sake.
- Rove leaks were, again, in the minds of liberal journalists and Marxed-up Democrats dying for attention.
- Federal budget is nothing that no other president hasn't had to deal with in the past. It is normal, btw, for a country fighting a war to spend money. The US economy is doing well despite everything and so a deficit is not a problem, really.
- Declining polls are, in fact, not declining. Read your news and catch up to the latest. GWB's numbers are up and, I suspect, have been kept artificially down for ages by, again, journalists doing everything in their power to make GWB look bad when, in fact, he looks pretty damn good. So go suck eggs, you weasel.
- Irak quagmire is not a quagmire. Look at your history books and check out what Europe was like after the WWars... Then, look up 'elections Afghanistan' and 'elections Iraq' on the net. You apparently haven't heard about them, you weasel, you.
- Osama still on the run which shows what a scaredy cat he really is and also shows that he's not managing to do much damage while he's worried about his ass. There are some people who believe Hitler didn't die in the bunker - didn't stop the demise of the Nazis, did it. You weasel, you.
- Non existent WMD??? Untrue statement but so what? The worst harm to the Iraqi people came from Saddam and I seem to recall that he's...um...being tried for war crimes by his fellow citizens, you silly weasel.
- FEMA had a few organizational problems after an incredibly HUGE storm hit a large section of the USA. As far as I have read, no one died because of FEMA. No one suffered terribly because of FEMA. Do you really really think that the French or the Germans or the Spanish could have done better in the same situation? Right. Time for a reality check, weasel...remember the 15000 who died of HEAT in France alone? Huh, do you remember? E-nough said.
- Delay indictment is trumped up politically-based case by an idiot Democrat who apparently has nothing better to do than to try to hurt Republican leaders by misusing his powers. Chirac and Bernie ripped the Paris Mairie off for years and that didn't stop the French from electing ChiChi TWICE. Take the beam out of your eye, weasel.
- Frist's blind trust...oh, for heaven's sake. Do you really think that has anything, ANYTHING to do with GWB or Democrats getting into power? What a weasel you are.
- CIA leak scandal. You are boring me to tears here. You already listed this...
- Bush cronyism. LOL LOL LOL LOL LOL LOL LOL LOL Coming from a weasel, THAT is r-i-c-h. LOL LOL LOL LOL LOL LOL.....
- War deads. Dead. Not deads. Dead. It happens in war. The American people know this. The US president does not single-handedly send soldiers to war. He asks Congress for permission. So, blame, if you insist on blaming someone, belongs to every member of Congress who voted to go to war. Personally, I put the blame on the people killing the American soldiers. You know, the terrorists? Remember them?
- Bird flu??? WTF? You've lost your train of thought on that one.
- Pollution??? LOL Did GWB invent pollution? Geez. Get your head out of your a*s, please.
- Domestic spying is done in every country in the world and, after 9/11, I don't see how anyone could possible be surprised that the US president wanted to see what Islamists were up to on US soil. Clinton did it. I would have if I were president. For sure.
- America's image worse than ever all around the world only in the minds of journalists, Leftists and weasels worldwide who know nothing much about America except what they read in the papers and see on TV. Americans fight what others fear. So shut up already about 'image'. Who cares about 'image' when GWB's USA has got balls.
- AND SO ON ..... !!! ( I don't have enough time ...) You weasel idiots piss me off to no end. Thank God GWB and the USA are major deciders right now and have been for last few decades. Go read your Koran and buy a prayer rug. And, oh, get over yourself.
Ah, M. Maxtor, it is not enough time that you lack, it is ability to distinguish between your private political fantasies and the facts.
Apparently you think the vagaries of American politics are just as Fr1 reports them. Of course if this were so, Mr. Bush would never have been re-elected. Just as Baghdad did not prove to be Stalingrad, just as Paris was not the certain Olympic choice, just as rendition flights are winked through France, just as the Parisian riots did not go unnoticed by the great big world, alas, wishful thinking is not fact.
Your wild collection of atrophic headlines are not the realities you so wish them to be. We are perplexed what several of your entries have to do with Mr. Bush's governance at all. But why write a thoughtful response when you can associate any setback or anything notionally bad with Mr. Bush? Why spoil your pee-in-the-pants glee with facts when there is so little glee in France?
We are always amused how Mr. Bush's detractors continue to predict his political demise, how they report failure on top of failure, while Mr. Bush goes from one accomplishment to the next.
Do not let the inconvenience of proving your claims interrupt your wishful thinking. Wishful thinking appears to be the only thinking you can manage.
Bonne et heureuse année!
DGB
If you all want to slag off the French, at least do it well, I find it pretty pathetic that people are using domestic social issues such as the riots for instance, which only affect the French, to further their compulsive hatred of everything coming from this country, to the point, where you feel, it is needed to run an anti-French blog to vent your frustration (I couldn't be personally bothered to set up a site, dedicated to bashing Americans, day-in, day-out, it's just not worth the time and efforts) having said that, I can only encourage you in this direction if that does relieve you from your anger and pain and, acts like a sort of collective therapy to heal your xenophobia.
Happy new year by the way !
Posted by: FFF at December 31, 2005 04:57 AMFFF,
The day you have the balls to post a real e-mail address, I'll dare discuss your pointless comments. For now, you and you alone are the kid enervated by this blog.
By the way, I'm French, so if I want to say what's going wrong in my country, I need nobody's consent but mine.
Posted by: Carine at December 31, 2005 11:21 AMMax,
Seems you have a very sever case of BDS.
There is a cure for this. Move to Canada or better yet france or germany. They have social welfare states which you would enjoy.
Finding a job is not important. The state will care for you. Probably the state is already caring for you.
