Now, this is a man

Italian TV shows 'hero' hostage execution

An Italian hostage who told his Iraqi captors: ”I will show you how an Italian dies,” seconds before he was shot in the head was hailed a hero as his countrymen viewed the footage from his execution for the first time.

In the video, released by Rome prosecutors, security guard Fabrizio Quattrocchi, 35, is shown kneeling on the ground with his face covered and hands tied behind his back, seconds before he was killed on April 14 2004.

Quattrocchi asked his captors to take his hood off, but they refused, to which he replied: “I will show you how an Italian dies.”

The video was aired on several television channels. They did not, however, show the moment of the actual execution.

“Quattrocchi died a hero,” foreign minister Gianfranco Fini was quoted by Italian news agencies. “Quattrocchi showed those executioners how a man can die with great dignity.”

Quattrocchi and three other Italian men working as private guards in Iraq were kidnapped on April 12 2004. Soon after, the captors issued a videotape of Quattrocchi’s execution but it was never aired at the time, according to news reports.

The three others were eventually freed.

Via Free Thoughts where a link to the video is available:

The Video of Fabrizio Quattrocchi minutes before being executed by the Islamo-fascist terrorists in Iraq. You can hear him, in Italian, saying "Vi faccio vedere come muore un italiano. Mi posso levare questo.." ( I am gonna show you how an Italian dies . May I take out this kefyiah?) . . . Al Jazeera had refused to air it, because of the heroism shown by Quattrocchi till the last minutes of his life.

Carine, that is a nice post. Too bad more of the anti-war, anti-American Italians do not see this- to see who the real enemy is. We do appreciate the help of Italy, however, it seems we have the support of only the leaders....

I have also read many stories of your country men/women in WWII with executions by the Germans that are similar to the brave Italian.

Chief RZ,

I certainly will :)

Andy,

I think I reported this, at the time at Pave France: when the liberation of Iraq began, on France Television, they interviewed French troops. Only a couple of men. They asked them what they thought about what was going on in Iraq and the position of France. They answered that they thought they should be there, in Iraq, fighting with the coalition of the willing.
Same with Spain: when Zapatero decided to flee Iraq, I read a couple of articles in which Spanish soldiers said they were ashamed they had to leave because they felt as if they were betraying other troops.

Just a few more votes in France, Canada (the liberals just fell a month ago), Spain, Germany (again, new government) and we will be on our way to freedom and the ability to tell The Truth!
And thanks for the visit.
