A tribute to the victims of 9/11
UPDATE: here.
For those living in Paris, there is an exhibition - ending March 10, 2006 - at the city hall of the 16th arrondissement paying a tribute to the victims of September 11.
A sculptor, Jean-Sébastien Raud, has created a statue (see picture below) as a tribute to the victims and particularly, the firefighters who died trying to save lives.
"This sculpture is a bronze memory, made to resist the assaults of time . . . this is an eternal flower that I delicately put on the souls of those who have suffered . . . and I particularly think of those heroic firefighters who knew how to give their lives to save ours . . ."
It is in a spirit of friendship and brotherhood between France, French-speaking countries (Quebec and Switzerland) and the United States that Jean-Sébastien Raud realized this sculpture symbolizing resistance, liberty and peace. Made in bronze, the scupture respects the scale of the NYC Twin Towers and is dedicated to the 343 firefighters of the FDNY who died.
After several exhibitions around the world, the sculpture will be offered to the mayor of New York City.

Darn. Wanted to find out a little more... His website doesn't work.
:(
Posted by: Valerie at March 7, 2006 10:41 PMEnding on March 10th? Coincidence? What about what happened on March 11th, 2004? Anyone remember Atocha?
Posted by: Yankee Expat In Japan at March 8, 2006 08:21 AMI honestly think that it was more about the eleventh being a Saturday (hence the city hall exhibition would be closed) than anything else.
But they may not have thought about it either, too.
Posted by: Carine at March 8, 2006 08:38 AMYankee Expat,
If not intentional, it certaily is interestig the coincidence of the closing date with the Atocha station bombing. Hopefully it might bring that other sad day to mind too.
Merci to M. Raud. And to the city officials who hosted it in their city hall.
Thank you Carine for bringing this to our attention.
Posted by: Valerie, Texas at March 8, 2006 11:57 AMIts the few frenchmen like these that keep me in the "kick froggie's arse" mode rather than "to hell with them and their muzzie boy friends" mode. A remnant worth preserving.
