Anti-Israel demonstration in Paris
As it was to be expected, a so-called pro-Lebanon/free Palestine demonstration turned into a Israel-is-a-terrorist-state demonstration in Paris today.
Amazingly, Hizballah flags were seen as well as, not surprisingly this time, anti-Israel, anti-American posters, with bad play on words (Olmert/Olmort -- "mort" meaning death in French) and unintelligible "messages".
My boyfriend went to see some anti-riots policemen to signal the Hizballah flags, and asked if they were not forbidden under French law. One of the man answered "Er, we haven't seen them, er, you mean the kids, yeah..." and another one laughed at us and said "if we see them, we'll do what we have to do". One wonders what it is exactly they have to do. Maybe to hold a white flag. I don't know.
Around one or two thousand people demonstrated, starting Place de la République, chanting slogans such as "Children of Iraq, Children of Palestine, that's humanity you're assasinating", "Zionists, fascist! You are the terrorists!"...
Interestingly, as you'll be able to see on the pictures, one of the trucks had a picture of Nasrallah on its door, and pictures of so-called victims of "Israel's state terrorism" on the back. TF1 chose to show only the pictures of the victims, without mentioning either Nasrallah or the presence of Hizballah flags. France 2 did the same, while France 3 mentioned anti-Israel and anti-American slogans.
Thanks to RV for the video.

[From left to right] Liberation of Palestinian resistants - French and Arab rulers: human rights, they don't mind - French gouvernment, Arab governments: accomplices of Israeli state terrorism - Down with our rulers who arm the occupying forces - Lebannon, help! Stop the Israeli barbarity

Human rights according to Israel - Stop the massacre!

"Olmort", Israel is sowing death - Olmert: murderer, Chirac, Villepin, Sarkozy: collaborationnists - Palestine: the true face of Israeli occupation

They stole their land, they steal their jobs! Now they steal their lives!

Long live the Lebanese resistance [notice the colors, green on yellow, just like the Hizballah flag]

[In the background] East-West - Islam is not your enemy

Double standards justice - Zionist traitors [Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Jordan]

Bush, the Imam of Arab rulers - [Bush:] "Palestine is none of your business" - His diciples [sic] obey and lets [sic] Palestine die

[Soldier with a Star of David on his helmet:] We are the strongest

[Jewish soldier:] But we have to defend ourselves!
Massacres! Jeningrad II, III, IV (more sequels than Star Wars)!
We wonder where all these people were while Hizballah fired rockets into Israeli urban centers over the past six years?
Rockets into schoolyards and playgrounds, nothing "disproportionate" in that. It is just so many Jews. Or hapless Arabs living among Jews. The French understand such differences. When you get the jihad itch, it MUST be scratched. It's a cultural expression and must be protected. Why, it is protected.
One is never sure just what it is that the left is shocked or horrified or outraged or pissy over. The left applies its outraged energies equally to imagined Israeli massacres (massacres by, not massacres of) and dolphins in tuna nets. For the left anything bad has a uniform badness. And things are either bad, scil., that which the left dislikes, or good, scil., that which the left likes or doesn't quite grasp.
The left would do itself some good if instead of squeezing its worldview onto placards, they took a moment to define the principles they think they are defending -- assuming lefty principles apply to all equally -- following on the facts.
Say this about the Islamofascists, they can plain-speak their principles, principles predicated on the superior position of Islam. We do not believe the French left in the street necessarily accepts this predication, they simply support it. With all their spirit, their placards, their crayons, their post-soccer freed-up afternoons.

Posted by: Carine at July 30, 2006 10:39 PMHow can the French be so idiotic?
Posted by: picpoule at July 30, 2006 11:21 PMSome of the signs were to be seen at today's (July 30) anti-Israel demonstration (oops, sorry, at "Rassemblement contre l'agression sioniste au Liban et a Gaza") in Brussels. For example, that one with a soldier with a Star of David on his helmet. On the last picture, I can also see part of another sign saying "Soldat d'Israel as-tu une cervelle??" which was prominently present in Brussels as well. I guess it's very close from Paris to Brussels. Unfortunately.

The "Americans Against The War" site does exist, however, it's:
http://aaw.france.online.fr/aaw/
They must have run out of paint and had to settle for a shorter URL. Strange, because they do have a registered domain name, and a short one, too: aaw.org
Ask whois or godaddy:
Registrant Organization:Aaw France
Registrant Street1:5 rue du Soleil
Registrant City:Paris
Registrant State/Province:NY
Registrant Postal Code:75020
Registrant Country:FR
Registrant Phone:+1.0144622374
There's a fellow called Arnie Egel with that phone number at that address.
They are "an association of activists living in France, principally Americans."
"We are opposed to state terrorism" they say. Hizbullah is not a state. So there you are.
There's a nice photo of the whole group there:
http://aaw.france.online.fr/aaw/Events.htm
Which one is Arnie?
Which one is the other American?
Alva,
It did look like something well organized in France, probably partly by the Hizballah. Your comments and post seem to confirm it must have been on the European level.
Hanuman,
I saw them once in a meeting I forced myself to attend in a Parisian university. An anti-war meeting, back in fall 2003. That was the time when hundreds of American troops were killed very often. They organized the meeting with an extremist organization called "Act Against the War", a pro-terrorist organization. Not one single "American" move a finger when a hateful kid from "Act against the war" said they were rejoicing from the deaths of American and Israeli soldiers and they were supporting the "Palestinian and Iraqi resistance". Made me want to puke. And I left.
I always enjoy the depictions of GWB as a puppet master - on one hand the left tells us he's an idiot, while on the other he is a master mind of unlimited influence who can control governments at will. These people are too funny.
Just an observation -this looks more like a "union style" protest- nobody seems to be breaking a sweat or working too hard at the whole outrage business.
As for the Sombrero Guy, didn't we spot him in the Sorbonne student hissy fit protests? We've seen that chapeau before.
The West has nothing to fear from Islam? Uh-huh. And they have beach front property in Idaho to sell to me too? What a deal!
Posted by: Valerie, Texas at August 1, 2006 02:35 PMPlutot que de traduire "Chirac, Villepin, Sarkozy collabos" par "collaborationists, utilisez plutot le terme "Quisling governement" plus approprié aux USA.

How can I forward to some friends and be alerted from time to time?
Posted by: roseline lewin at August 4, 2006 04:08 PMJean Tagada,
My, you are French! I wasn't the one who commented about the idiocy of the French, although I won't say the opposite now that I just read your "comments". You are the evidence picpoule -- not me in that case -- was right.
How can the French be so idiotic? Posted by picpoule at July 30, 2006 11:21 PM
Besides, I am French, sur papier as you elegantly say among typical hateful Frenchies like you.
I live in France so I know exactly what I'm talking about, alright? And certainly better than you do, for I do not use la documentation française (paid for with the money I earn, the same that pay your RMI) to get information. Thank you very much, the Quai d'Orsay, the French Foreign Ministry, is already monitoring all French articles about Israel -- and that's a fact --, I'm not going to add government propaganda on top of it.
Good luck, Jean, with your little, hateful country. Learn to let your beard grow. I'm pretty sure you're already used to beating your wife (that is if you find one, which I doubt).
And you may need people to repeat everything to you twice, I don't care, you don't have to post your crass ignorance twice.
