More anti-Sarkozy journalistic propaganda
No bias. No bias. It's the Americans' fault!
"I invite all the French people to rally my inflated ego". Some French people living in New York were stunned when they read the subtitles of Nicolas Sarkozy's April 22 speech aired on the news of [French] France 2 TV, retransmitted in the United States the following day via cable TV.The translation mistake was announced on French Morning NY, a web magazine for the French community in New York. One representative of the French living abroad, Jean Lachaud, would have complained to France 2... which decided to fire its facetious translator.
The person in charge of the translation department at France 2, Claire Quidet, insists in a letter that "one would be wrong to believe (...) that it is an anti-Sarko subtitle". "Rather, she adds, it is a schoolboy joke from a little overworked translator, that could have been on any other person, politician or not, that the translator would have had to translate that night. One also has to remember that all translators are Americans and that, on top of not being able to vote for this election, their feelings for the candidates are not as divided as French citizens' feelings.
"It's not me, it's someone else's fault." So French. I guess no one ever check important translations at France 2. Right.
Compared to the original speech, "my inflated ego" was added to the text. It is hence not a "translation mistake", but a voluntary addition from the translator, or whoever typed the subtitles.

Let's drop the inflated ego and the repetition of "that we can" (a typo?). We have:
"I invite all the French people to rally so that we can build that dream."
I see only two places where the original French might match, but only remotely, the above "translation":
1. Je ne souhaite qu’une chose : rassembler le peuple français autour d’un nouveau rêve français...
2. j’invite tous les Français de bonne volonté quelles que soient leurs origines, leurs croyances, leurs partis à s’unir à moi pour qu’ensemble nous puissions la bâtir.
I don't call that "translation." I call that fantasy, pure fantasy.
A "joke from a little overworked translator", uh? Overworked but still with enough energy left to fabricate all that wholesale! Pull the other one Miz Claire Quidet, it's got bells on't.
Dimanche is the big jour.
Still think a better way would be a steel cage batch between Sarko et Sego.
Put it on pay per view.
