Sarkozy elected President of France

Now that everyone knows, I would like to single out a small part of his victory speech that he made tonight.

This blog was created in the follow-up of Pave France, mostly in response to French anti-Americanism.

Nicolas Sarkozy was described by supporters and enemies alike as "pro-American".

He felt the need to mention our "American friends" during tonight's speech.

I thought you'd appreciate to see what he had to say.

I want to send a message to our American friends, to tell them they can count on our friendship [applause] that was built during history's tragedies that we faced together. I want to tell them that France will always be by their side when they need her. But I also want to tell them that friendship is accepting that one's friends can think differently and that a great nation, like the United States, has the duty not to block the fight against global warming but instead to lead this fight because what's at stake is the fate of the entire humanity. France will make this fight her first fight.

As we say here, plus ça change...

The fight against global warming, eh? Oh, well, what do you expect? Let Sarkozy's UMP (Union pour le Mouvement Popular) americanize its name to UBM (Union for Bowel Movements) and all will be said, truly and accurately. Will go nicely with the PS too (PS = Piss and Shit)

Fair enough. But the next time some knuckle-dragging half wit on that side of the Atlantic starts going on about gun control, globalization, the Electoral College, capital punishment, two-party politics, capitalism, or any one of the hundred other ‘America’ fetishes Europeans seem to obsess over (that aren’t related to global warming), please remind them of that ‘acceptance’ part.

I just spent better part of a year fighting against Al Gore and his Gorbal Worming crowd.

Hey Sarko, how about you put out those car-b-ques, and leave the weather to mother nature.

Excuse me, did you just say that you don't believe in Glowball Warming™?

More accurate to say I don't believe in 'scientific consensus'.
Weather isn't subject to a vote in my reality.

Actually, I do believe in a 'scientific consensus', but they don't have one yet on global warming.

In that ongoing and neverending fight over who has stumbled onto the truth, there will be times that a majority of scientists agree on things and that can be considered as consensus. But I still believe that the Glowball™ is warming things up quite a bit. In the near future the new orbiting solar monitoring system (STEREO) should just how much 'help' we're getting from the big fire in the sky in terms of mega-wattage and at what frequency it's coming at us.
