Pave: The Best Of France Elsewhere
The Republic rallied to throw back the Polish plumber invasion, but cunning Albion beats out the local talent and makes off with French glory.
SOUTHPORT PLUMBER NAMED BEST IN FRANCE
August 30, 2007 (Champion) - A Southport man has been named the best young plumber in France.Oliver Watson, 26, beat more than 6,000 competitors to win the Meilleur Apprenti de France prize and will travel to Paris receive the prestigious accolade from French premier Nicolas Sarkozy in September.
He left an art and design course in Manchester three years ago and went to visit his parents in France, where he enrolled on a plumbing course in Marseille.
He later entered the national competition to find France’s best apprentice, and spent more than 150 hours producing a complicated pipe work with specific measurements. The competition judges were unaware of Oliver’s nationality.
He is now working for a plumbing firm in Manchester.
The best plumber in France works in Manchester. [Pause.] England. Manchester, England.

pas besoin d'en dire plus.
Ah, but is he as good looking as that Polish plumber in those travel ads?
Posted by: Valerie, Texas at August 31, 2007 04:14 PMOh, how we weep. To be found pathetic by a drop-by Frenchie. By a voter of M. Sarkozy.
It is this sort of penetrating and exhaustive critique that confirms France a sinkhole of philosophes. Of the deep-think.

Posted by: Sankyo at September 1, 2007 10:01 PMSankyo instructs us by example in the fine points of compassionate decorous social discourse.
Mr. Craig is a dirty religious Republican fag. Sankyo identifies several blanket offenses: Mr. Craig's salaciousness, his hypocrisy, his belief in God, his party affiliation, and his homosexuality.
We join Sankyo in the easy condemnation of items one and two. However, were Mr. Craig a Muslim, we imagine Sankyo would be a bit more circumspect about -- might forbear entirely -- damning belief in God.
Also, were Mr. Craig a Democrat, well, would his homosexuality even be an issue? Would Sankyo characterize Mr. Craig as a fag? Would his salaciousness solicit a more nuanced compassionate and exculpatory response from Sankyo?
Sankyo, we surmise, lives among angels. The hypocrisy must be unbearable.
