BITCH! CUR! THE SAME GREAT GROUP
How We Will Always Remember Them

Our story so far:

Ségo and Dutch meet at school. Romance, une pacte civil de solidarité, and several progenerations later they are a family. They both enter politics. They both prosper. Dutch as a rising functionary in the Parti Socialiste, Ségo as a provincial PS politician. Fast forward -- Ségo has a makeover, catches the eye of the press, the public is informed. Bikinitude becomes a hot political asset. Aspiring party présidentiables must have it. Ségo does, others (and here and here) -- including Dutch -- don't. Ségo easily wins her party's nomination and goes on to run a conflicted, weak campaign as the bikini candidate. She loses the election. A fallback plan to incite civil war fails. Meanwhile Dutch cheats on Ségo. Ségo dumps Dutch. Everyone quits the Parti Socialiste (here and here and here) except Dutch and Ségo. A battle ensues for primacy.

Tonight's episode:

FEUDING CLOUDS FRENCH SOCIALIST CONGRESS

LA ROCHELLE September 2, 2007 (AFP) - An icy stand-off between the former power couple of the French left, defeated presidential hopeful Segolene Royal and Socialist leader Francois Hollande, cast a chill over the party's summer congress at the weekend.

... Royal is battling to take over the party reins when Hollande's term ends next year, while Hollande said Friday he would consider taking on his former partner for the 2012 presidential nomination.

A weekend congress of some 4,000 Socialist Party activists in the Atlantic city of La Rochelle, billed as a chance for the party to get back on track, was instead dominated by their stand-off.

Hollande did not attend Royal's opening address, in which she said she was "confident the party can rise up and make itself heard," while she left without listening to Hollande's keynote speech on Sunday.

Stay tuned.
