ISRAEL OFFICIAL: PALESTINIAN BOY’S DEATH STAGED
Network Accused Of Manipulating Video
To Show Israel Using Excessive Force

JERUSALEM October 1, 2007 (MSNBC) - A senior Israeli official has accused a French television network of manipulating video footage to make Israel’s army look responsible for the shooting death of a 12-year-old Palestinian boy during a gunbattle with militants seven years ago.

The claim goes further than an official army investigation into the incident and was denied by the network, France 2. The army probe said it was highly unlikely that Israeli troops shot the boy but did not rule out that possibility or make any accusations about the video.

... In the years since, some people have questioned the video’s accuracy, and a group of Israeli lawyers, the Israel Law Center, has repeatedly petitioned the Israel Government Press Office to revoke France 2’s press credentials.

The press office’s director, Danny Seaman, denied the latest request [Why?], but in his response to the lawyers, accused the French network of manipulating its footage and harming Israel. From Mr. Seaman's letter of September 23:

The events of that day were in fact staged by the network’s cameraman in Gaza, Mr. Talal Abu Rahma.

Events could not have occurred as they were described by the network’s reporter, Charles Enderlin, since they contradict the laws of physics.

[This blood libel] inflamed the Arab world and led to many victims in Israel and across the world.

I wonder if this is one of those stories that will refuse to die, like the UN Oil for Bribes story that simmered for years until enough evidence accumulated for it to flare up into the MSM. If the pressure keeps on them, eventually FR2 will crumble under the weight of all their contradictions.

Paul,

We think your surmise correct.

Alas, it has taken seven years to advance the challenge to the Fr2 fiction this far. Because the French state is involved, there are several compelling reasons that the truth will probably not surface for years.

For example: France aggressively wants to offer an alternate "French view" of the news (e.g., France 24). If a state-owned news service is discredited the discredit will be associated with all state news properties.

France thinks and presents herself as an exemplary nation, despite her sorry modern history. France has still to acknowledge direct state complicity in deportation of her Jews in WWII (some 70 years past), atrocities committed in her colonies, most especially those against Algerian nationalism (some 60 years past), and her complicity in the Rwandan genocide (some thirteen years past).

We would remind all that what is at issue is not some factual slip-up warranting correction. What is at issue is a state-owned news service doing the wink-wink-nudge-nudge bidding of the Quai d'Orsay, inciting hatred and hazard against Israel specifically, and American interests generally. What is at issue is inventing news to serve poitical masters.

What is at issue is the truth and admitting to the truth.
