Pave: French Expressionism

On the one hand you have a revoltingly bestial act of cruelty, on the other a pure, intense act of love.

FRENCHWOMAN ON TRIAL FOR VANDALISING ARTWORK WITH A KISS

October 10, 207 (France 24/AFP) - A French woman [Cambodian-born Rindy Sam, 30] went on trial Tuesday accused of vandalising a two-million-euro artwork by US artist Cy Twombly by planting a lipstick-red kiss on its pure white canvas.

... The young woman, herself an artist, says she was overcome by the work's power.

The work is described as an all-white painting free of any representation and measures 3m x 2m. The canvas dates from Twombly's "Hook-up" period, when he painted hundreds of these to hit on babes in art appreciation classes.

Mlle. Sam is threatened with a €4,500 fine -- and worse, a class on proper French citizenship. Her 15 minutes of fame works out to roughly €300 a minute. Cheap at twice the price for a million dollar splash on the news wires.
