Pave: Iran ? Ne t'inquiète pas.

Le jour 161 de Sarko

I would say that what is dangerous about this situation [scil., Iran producing weaponizable uranium] is not the fact of having a nuclear bomb - having one, maybe a second one a little later, well, that's not very dangerous.

Then-Jack, Now Ex-Jack,
signaling that France has decided
Europe -- and the world --
can live with a nuclear Iran

Why worry? Then-Jack, Now Ex-Jack never worried. Nothing to fear from peaceable atomic Iran. Ah, but Then-Jack, Now Ex-Jack is gone. Should you worry now?

FRANCE: IRAN TO RUN NEARLY 3,000 URANIUM CENTRIFUGES SOON

PARIS October 3, 2007 (USA Today/AP) — Iran is set to run almost 3,000 centrifuges by the end of the month, nearing the threshold for industrial-scale uranium enrichment in its contested nuclear program, French diplomatic officials said Wednesday.

... The telegram from IAEA headquarters in Vienna, indicated that the agency believes Iran will have 18 cascades running by the end of October — or the equivalent of just under 3,000 centrifuges, French officials said on condition of anonymity because of the sensitivity of the issue. ... Tehran has already declared a goal of operating 3,000 centrifuges, which Western diplomats say would be enough to produce a nuclear bomb per year.

Ne t'inquiète pas.

U.N. WATCHDOG: IRAN NOT IMMEDIATE THREAT

October 22, 2007 (JTA) - Ehud Olmert slammed the head of the U.N. nuclear watchdog agency for downplaying the Iranian nuclear threat.

Mohamed ElBaradei, director general of the International Atomic Energy Agency, told France’s LeMonde on Monday that Iran will not be a nuclear threat for at least three years since the country is three to eight years away from producing a nuclear bomb.

ElBaradei said there is PLENTY OF TIME to try diplomatic options like negotiation [and this], sanctions [and this] and incentives before resorting to force. He said Iraq is an example of how the use of force can make the problem worse. Ehud Olmert:

If ElBaradei thinks that a nuclear bomb within three years should not concern me, then I'm concerned. I think it would have been preferable if ElBaradei made an effort to stop them from obtaining a bomb.

Ne t'inquiète pas.

IRAN PROTESTS TO FRANCE OVER NUCLEAR STANCE

TEHRAN October 22, 2007 (AFP) - In a letter to his French counterpart Bernard Kouchner, [Iran's Foreign Minister Manouchehr] Mottaki protested:
France's pressure for unilateral sanctions and its encouragement of the European Union to this end. This move is part of a defeated policy... the imposition of unilateral sanctions against countries is an illegal action.

Ne t'inquiète pas.

IRAN HAS 'STATE-OF-THE-ART MISSILES'

October 23, 2007 (Press TV) - The Iranian Defense Minister says the country possesses the most advanced missiles which enable it to confront the enemies' threats.

... “Iran possesses surface-to-surface missiles with the range of 2000 km,” [Brigadier General Mostafa Mohammad-Najjar] said.

The Iranian official said the country is ready to export its defense technology and advanced military equipment to Middle East states.

Ne t'inquiète pas.

[IAEA chief Mohamed] El Baradei says that any judgement about Iran should be made on their intentions. My view is that we should look at the indications, not the intentions, and then decide. ... Our experience with Libya shows that it is almost impossible for the agency to decide whether a country's nuclear intentions are peaceful or otherwise. If the Libyans had not admitted [that they were trying to build an atomic bomb] we would not have been able to prove it.

Head of the Department of Safeguards (1999 to June 2005),
responsible for inspections of Iran's nuclear program

Ne t'inquiète pas. Ça va s'arranger.

PFFT (What is this?): Ne t'inquiète pas/Don't worry 0 | Un souci/A worry 4¾ | Rayonnement français 3½ (Ex-Jack ranking.)
