SARKOZY WANTS TO END 35-HOUR WEEK

PARIS January 8, 2008 (RNW) - French President Nicolas Sarkozy wants to end both the 35-hour working week and the reduction of working hours law in 2008.

Although he made the announcement at a new year's press conference in the presidential palace today, the French president had always let it be known during his election campaign that he considered the 35-hour working week 'a total catastrophe for the French economy'.

SARKOZY SAYS NO PLANS TO ABOLISH 35-HOUR WORK WEEK

PARIS January 9, 2008 (Reuters) - French President Nicolas Sarkozy denied on Wednesday that the government planned to scrap the 35 hour working week but said he wanted to move ahead with reforming the system.
