Pave: I Can't Believe It's France! IV

Le jour 288 de Sarko

I will never betray you.

Bernard Kouchner,
current French Foreign Minister,
to United States Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice,
in a naked reference to Dom de Villepin* knifing
Colin Powell personally (and this) and the
Bush and Blair administrations duplely
February 3, 2008 (NYT)

The article goes on:

[W]hen [Kouchner] and Sarkozy met with Bush, Bush said:
Chirac promised me that in the end he would be with us on Iraq. And then he betrayed us.

Let us hope M. Kouchner enjoys a long tenure in his post.

Kouchner speaks of returning France to the heart of Europe and Europe to the heart of the Western alliance; but on Iraq he hasn’t made much headway among his fellow foreign ministers, or even his own colleagues. M. Kouchner:
They believe that I am an unguided missile. They believe that I’m a foolish guy. ‘Why is this stupid Kouchner going to Iraq? We don’t care about Iraq!’ They are stupid. They don’t know that the core of the danger is there, in between Iraq and Iran, in between Lebanon and Syria. This is the common enemy, not only for Americans but for all democracies. And the common enemy is extremism.

Oh, someone is upset.

So upset, that he has posted an unrelated link.

M. Pif thinks we should mind our own business. Of course, M. Pif feels competent to mind our own business too.

Since commentary on France is too much for M. Pif to bear, we invite him, as we do all fragile franchouilles, to go away. But should he somewhere find the strength to visit us again, we ask that he follow the rules: 1) post in English as best he can manage and 2) post on topic.
