June 28, 2008 (Herald Sun) - The world's biggest airline, Air France-KLM, will pay a criminal fine of USD$350 million (AUD$365.5 million) after admitting involvement in a cartel that cheated customers over freight costs.... US associate Attorney-General Kevin O'Connor said passengers of the four airlines* were charged hundreds of millions of dollars between 2001 and 2006 by an "international price-fixing cartel":
In some instances, for example, fuel surcharges rose by 1000 per cent.... The huge penalty on Air France-KLM is the second-biggest imposed by the US Justice Department for cartel behaviour.

Jeudi 6 juillet 2006 : L'ancien président et fondateur d'Enron, Kenneth Lay, un proche du président George W. Bush dont il a financé la première campagne électorale, est décédé d'une crise cardiaque mercredi 5 juillet 2006. Il était âgé de 64 ans. Enron était au septième rang de la liste du magazine "Fortune" en 2000 avec des revenus annuels de 101 milliards de dollars. Enron, le géant américain du courtage en énergie, a fait faillite le 2 décembre 2001, victime des malversations comptables de plusieurs de ses dirigeants. 33 personnes ont été inculpées dont 24 anciens responsables de l'entreprise. Sur ce total, 16 ont déjà été reconnues coupables. Le procès de Kenneth Lay, fondateur d'Enron, et Jeffrey Skilling, ancien président-directeur général de la société, s'était ouvert le lundi 30 janvier 2006 à Houston, ville du Texas où Enron avait son siège social. Le 25 mai 2006, les 2 dirigeants d'Enron avaient été reconnus coupables d'entente illicite, de fraude et de malversations, par un tribunal de Houston au Texas
