NYC Letter: To Hell With Allies...
Day 245 of CHOPE
...America should protect its enemies.
Q: How aggressive can Obama be in insisting to the Israelis that a military strike might be in America’s worst interest?
We are not exactly impotent little babies. They have to fly over our airspace in Iraq. Are we just going to sit there and watch?
Q: What if they fly over anyway?
Well, we have to be serious about denying them that right. That means a denial where you aren’t just saying it. If they fly over, you go up and confront them. They have the choice of turning back or not. No one wishes for this but it could be a Liberty* in reverse.
Zbigniew Brzezinski,
former National Security Adviser and Obama booster,
offering the type of stellar ass-backwards advice
that sunk the Carter administration
September 18, 2009 (Daily Beast)
First, whose airspace? Last we heard Iraqi airspace belonged to, ah, Iraq.
Second, Mr. Brzezinski here envisions American planes protecting Iranian airspace -- in extremis shooting down Israeli planes. [We sit on the floor.] We can only hope Mr. Brzezinski does not have Mr. Obama's ear.
Mr. Obama already has a propensity to offend allies and coddle enemies.
Mr. Brzezinski's assessment here serves as a reminder -- if one were needed -- what a spectacular success Team Carter foreign policies were.
CHOPE.
Up is down.

* USS Liberty (AGTR-5) was a Belmont-class technical research ship attacked in international waters by Israeli jet fighter planes and motor torpedo boats on June 8, 1967, during the Six-Day War. The combined attacks killed 34 and wounded 172 crew members and severly damaged the ship. Both American and Israeli inquiries concluded the controversial incident friendly fire, a conclusion credibly disputed by the surviving crew, cabinet-level officials at the time, and a Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff.
Mr. Brzezinski brings up the incident to work a little payback into his scenario.
