GOTTA GO
Weiner Mobile Still Running On A Full Tank Of Scandal

Let's start here:

[T]he party's new chairwoman, Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz (D-FL, 20th) of Florida, declined to respond directly on Tuesday when the Republican chairman, Reince Priebus, urged them to say whether they believe Weiner (D-NY, 9th) should step down. The Democratic National Committee has adamantly refused to comment, while a spokesman in Wasserman Schultz's congressional office has said only that she supports Pelosi's call for an ethics investigation.

Then let's have a look here:

PELOSI DECLINES TO CALL
FOR WEINER'S RESIGNATION

WASHINGTON June 10, 2011 (SacBee/AP) - Amid increasing calls for Rep. Anthony Weiner to resign, House Democratic leader Nancy Pelosi (D-CA, 8th) says the decision should be up to the congressman and his New York constituents.

The Democrat leadership thought Mr. Weiner could figure this out for himself. Unending scandal, daily developments, cheesy photos, explicit photos, the wronged wife, the wronged pregnant wife, an underage girl -- none of it looks good and it cannot be made to go away without Mr. Weiner going away. [Pause.] But the Congressman is not going away.

So. Looks like the "man up" scenario won't play. On second thought, forget all that stuff said earlier. Time for bare-knuckle politics.

WASSERMAN-SCHULTZ CALLS
FOR WEINER'S RESIGNATION

HOLLYWOOD, Florida June 11, 2011 (local10.com) - South Florida Congresswoman and Democratic National Committee Chairwoman, Debbie Wasserman-Shultz called for Representative Anthony Weiner to resign Saturday. Ms. Wasserman Shultz:
It is with great disapointment that I call on my colleague, Representative Anthony Weiner to resign. The behavior he has exhibited is indefensible. Representative Weiner's continued service in Congress is untenable. This sordid affair has become an unacceptable distraction for Representative Weiner, his family, his constituents, and the house. And, for the good of all, he should step aside and address those things that should be most important - his and his family's well being.

Wasserman-Schultz did not take questions from reporters.

VAN HOLLEN CALLS
FOR WEINER'S RESIGNATION

June 11, 2011 (NYT) - Rep. Chris Van Hollen (D-MD, 8th) [and former Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee chair] joined a growing chorus of congressional Democrats Saturday who are calling on fellow Democrat Rep. Anthony Weiner to resign after the New York lawmaker acknowledged sending racy pictures of himself over the social networking site Twitter.

"Anthony Weiner’s repeated violation of the public trust is unacceptable," the Montgomery County lawmaker said in a statement. "He can best advance the issues he fought for by resigning immediately."

TOP HOUSE DEMOCRAT HOYER SAYS
ANTHONY WEINER SHOULD STEP ASIDE

WASHINGTON June 12, 2011 (Dow Jones) - Steny Hoyer (D-MD, 5th), House minority whip on CBS's "Face The Nation":
I would hope that Mr. Weiner would use this opportunity to reflect on whether he can proceed. I don't see how he can and I hope he would make that judgment.

Hoyer said the House Ethics Committee could formally try to expel Weiner, but that process would take too much time.

Expelling takes too much time. So even though expulsion may be the appropriate punishment, you know, it just takes too much time. Congress is busy doing the "people's business". Better no justice than justice delayed. [Snort.] Kidding. Justice is not at issue here. It's the prospect of a year of dragged out Weiner World revelations and House ethics proceedings going into the 2012 election. Democrats want to fish wrap Mr. Weiner now to give the public plenty of time to forget about him before going to the ballot.

Mr. Weiner is not without his defenders.

ACTRESS DEFENDS WEINER,
SAYS 'EVERYONE LIES ABOUT SEX'

June 10, 2011 (The Hill) - During an appearance on HBO's "Real Time with Bill Maher," Janeane Garofalo said, "Anthony Weiner deserves to be supported and hopefully he will be mayor of New York one day. I'm serious. He is a Democrat [who] actually fights for the things liberals and progressive and rational people care about.

"I don't know why he's being thrown under the bus. He hasn't done any -- he hasn't broke [sic] any laws," she said.

Uh, uh, uh. Careful there, Janeane. He hasn't done any -- what? Anything wrong? Even Mr. Weiner admits to having done wrong, many wrongs. Ms. Garofalo might want to check in with Huma Abedin before speaking for everyone.

And, no, not everyone lies about sex. Ms. Garofalo apparently does, which would give her claim at least self-authority. Recent skimmers will recognize this as the Cenk Uygur ethics high bar.

Attentive regulars will remember Ms. Garofalo. She is a bigot, a political dilettante, a self-taught pretend neurologist, bitter about an America she must share with the "lesser segment", and stupid in an unoriginal way, which explains her open seat on Bill Maher's show. Just the person to play wingman to a scandal felled Congressman.

CHOPE.

The long road to nowhere.
