NYC Letter: Chart Of The Day -- Better Luck Next $862B
Day 1,289 of CHOPE
D-minus 167 Days

A PICTURE WORTH A THOUSAND EXCUSES
Dude, Where's My $862B?
[Original chart: Job Impact Of The American Recovery
And Reinvestment Plan, January 9, 2009]
Above is the infamous Team Barry stimulus vs. NO stimulus chart, modified with actual unemployment plots and data points developed by James Pethokoukis at AEI.
Mr. Obama has a laundry list of excuses -- it's the Bush economy, bad econ intelligence, bad luck, stimulus too small, Japanese and Arab headwinds, Europa headwinds, irresponsible Europa, irresponsible partisans, unpatriotic Republicans, not-so-much-as-a-pinky-lift Republicans -- why his stimulus didn't deliver the results he confidently predicted in early 2009. But he wants you to know he's ready to do in a second term what he failed to do in his first term.
Mr. Obama,There is going to be, though, as the summer winds down and we get into the fall, the need for voters in these swing states to know not just what they're voting against but also what they're voting for. And so we'll be spending a lot of time talking about the specific agenda that I intend to pursue in the second term -- which I think will make sure that this economy is going full guns.

REMARKS AT A CAMPAIGN EVENT
NEW YORK July 30, 2012 (White House)
That's great news exactly one term too late.
Mr. Obama,One nice thing about the situation I find myself in is that I will be held accountable. I've got four years. ... If I don't have this done in three years, then there's going to be a one-term proposition.
